International Women's Day

International Women’s Day (8th March) was supported by FEMYSO as a day in which women across the world could unite against all differences and re-assert the message of freedom for political, social and religious rights.

This day is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in China, Nepal, Russia and Syria as a national holiday. Women in every country, often divided by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate this important date that represents equality, justice, peace and development.

Hadia Himmat, woman and vice-president of FEMYSO: “The Muslim women can only fully celebrate this day when her freedom to practise her Islamic faith is respected. For example, that her choice to wear the hijab or marry whom she pleases is provided by state and society.” Patriarchical oppression, institutionally and domestically, is eliminated to create justice between men and women. Sunduss Al-Hassani, another female member of FEMYSO’s executive committee and representative in the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe added: “Muslim women across the world should be recognised for their achievements, successes and encouraged to perform as makers of the future, against all stereo-typed images and prejudices, every day of the year.”

Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.
The Holy Quran, Chapter16 Verse 97.
